The Mount, a Specialist Further Education College, is part of a unique integrated Camphill community which provides care, support and engaged learning for students aged 16 to 25 within a holistic environment, offering day and residential placements, 38 weeks per year.
The educational philosophy which
underpins the work at The Mount aims to create a healthy and positive balance
between the three human aspects of intellectual understanding, feeling-emotional-intuitive
experience and practical ability, most simply expressed as Head, Heart and
Hand.
Students benefit from an
inclusive and person-centred curriculum which balances and supports cognitive
learning and skills development with experiential learning, movement education,
artistic activities and individual therapies.
Development of independence
skills, practical training and off-site activities extends students' experience
and learning beyond The Mount and enables them to live a fulfilled and
independent life. The Mount's community setting and shared living enables learning
and acquisition of skills to take place at almost any time, for example in
carrying out the ordinary tasks of everyday domestic life.
The Mount's mission and method
are expressed through the commitment to integrating statutory requirements and
Camphill community building with all members. Well-being, learning, inclusion
and self-development are supported by the community's social relationship
model.
Regular support plan and study
programme updates, review meetings, house and management meetings, all reflect
the needs and voice of individual students.
Students can achieve
accreditation for their work through Pearson Edexcel qualifications Entry Level
Functional Skills (English & Maths), Entry Level Award and Entry Level
Certificate in Skills for Independence, BTec Entry Level Award in Work Skills
Level 1 and 3, and BTec Award in Home Cooking Level 1 and 2.
